Saburō Namachi was a Japanese children's literature author born on January 2, 1907, in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. His real name was Saburō Yamada, and he graduated from Tokyo Commercial School (now Hitotsubashi University). He was a disciple of the renowned writer, Miyozo Ogawa. In 1952, he received the 1st Shogakukan Children's Culture Award for his work 'Maigo no Donatsu' and won the Minister of Education Award in 1959 for his book 'Tokei no 3ji kun'. He passed away on December 23, 1978.
