She served as a member of the House of Councillors from the 1960s to the 1990s and held key positions such as vice-chair of the party and secretary-general of the New Japan Women's Association. Notably, she was a Christian in a party that publicly expressed a secular worldview, making her one of the highest-ranking figures to openly identify with a religious faith.
