Sadhan Basu was an Indian physical chemist and academic who served as the Palit Professor of Chemistry at the University of Calcutta from 1964 to 1985. He contributed significantly to the field by elucidating the Quantum Mechanical Model of Robert S. Mulliken. Basu co-authored the first Indian article on polymer chemistry in 1962. As a distinguished scientist, he was an elected fellow of several prestigious societies, including the Royal Society of Chemistry. His remarkable contributions to chemical sciences earned him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, one of India's highest science awards.
