Safa Karman is a Yemeni journalist who joined Al Jazeera in 2010, becoming the first Yemeni woman to do so and the youngest woman to receive significant news coverage at that time. Born on June 5, 1987, in Taiz, Yemen, she grew up in the capital, Sana'a. Safa is the youngest of ten siblings from a politically active family. Her father, Abdul Salam Karman, was a prominent lawyer and politician, and her sister Tawakkol Karman is the first Arab woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
