Sal Nistico was an American modern jazz saxophonist born on April 12, 1940, in Syracuse, New York. Initially starting on alto saxophone, he switched to tenor in 1956 and also played baritone. He was part of the Jazz Brothers in 1959 and later joined Woody Herman's band from 1962 to 1965, known for his impactful solos. Nistico performed with notable musicians like Chet Baker and Don Ellis, and taught at the Berner Swiss Jazz School. He faced drug problems later in life, which contributed to his death on March 3, 1991, in Bern.
