Salli Lund, originally Hill and previously Mäkelä, was a Finnish-born journalist and poet who lived in the Republic of Karelia. Born on December 12, 1902, in Oulu, she grew up in a large family. After working in retail, she moved to Canada in 1927 and later to Soviet Karelia in 1932. Her life was marked by personal tragedies including the loss of her husband and children. Lund returned to Petrozavodsk in 1944, continued her career in publishing, and became a member of the Soviet Writers' Union in 1970.
