Sally Miller Gearhart (April 15, 1931 - July 14, 2021) was an American educator, feminist, science fiction writer, and political activist. She made history as the first openly lesbian woman to hold a permanent faculty position at a college when appointed by San Francisco State University in 1973. Gearhart contributed to the establishment of one of the first academic programs focused on women's studies and gender studies in the United States. She later became a nationally recognized LGBTQ rights activist.
