He discovered the hammered dulcimer while repairing guitars. In 1974, he co-founded the string band Trapezoid, known for its dulcimer quartets, before pursuing a solo career. Rizzetta was influential in dulcimer design innovations, creating features like bridge markers and damper pedals, and collaborated with the Dusty Strings Company to produce a series of chromatic models.
