Samarendra Kumar Mitra was an Indian Bengali scientist and mathematician, born on March 14, 1916, and passed away on September 26, 1998. He built India's first indigenous technology computer, an electronic analog computer, at the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata in 1953. He began his career as a researcher in the Physics Department of the University of Calcutta and later joined ISI where he served as a professor, research professor, and director. He was also the founder and first head of the Computing Machine and Electronics Division at ISI.
