Samuel Louis Kaplan is an American lawyer and business negotiator born in 1936. He served as the 33rd United States Ambassador to Morocco, appointed by President Barack Obama, succeeding Thomas Riley. Kaplan took the oath of office on September 18, 2009. He is one of the few American Jews to represent the U.S. as an ambassador in a Muslim country, being the second Jew in the history of Moroccan-American relations to hold this position, following Mark Ginsburg, who served from 1994 to 1998.
