Samvel Petros Gevorgyan was an Armenian freedom fighter and commander born on April 12, 1950, in Yerevan, Armenian SSR, USSR. He participated in the self-defense and liberation battles of the borders of Soviet Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast, later the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh. He was a multiple champion of road cycling in the Armenian SSR and a winner of the USSR championship, also holding the title of Master of Sports.
