Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan was an officer in the Indian Army who served in the Special Action Group of the National Security Guard (NSG). He was killed during the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks while fighting terrorists. For his bravery, he was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India's highest peacetime military honor, on January 26, 2009. His last words were a command to his colleagues to stay back while he confronted the attackers. He sustained fatal injuries while ensuring the safety of an injured comrade during the operation.
