Santigie Borbor Kanu, also known as Five-Five, is a Sierra Leonean military commander born in March 1965. He played a pivotal role in the coup d'état that removed President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah in May 1997. Kanu was later convicted of war crimes and crimes against humanity related to the Sierra Leone Civil War, including murder, rape, and the use of child soldiers. His trial marked important milestones in international law. He was sentenced to 50 years in prison and is currently serving his sentence in Rwanda.
