Sarah 'Sally' Grey Thomason is an American linguist known for her work in general linguistics, contact linguistics, historical linguistics, Slavic linguistics, indigenous languages, pidgin and creole languages, and xenoglossia. She earned her B.A. in German studies from Stanford University and later obtained her M.A. and Ph.D. in linguistics from Yale University. Thomason has been a professor of linguistics at the University of Michigan since 1999, and previously taught at Yale and the University of Pittsburgh. She also served as the editor of Language journal from 1988 to 1994.
