Sarita Colonia, born Sara Colonia Zambrano on 1 March 1914, was a Peruvian folk saint who rose from poverty to become a symbol of hope among marginalized communities in Lima. She died at 26 on 20 December 1940. Known for her miracles, she particularly resonated with the poor, migrants, sex workers, criminals, and the LGBT community. Over time, her burial site became a place for prayer, leading to the construction of a shrine in her honor in 1983, marking her lasting impact on the spiritual landscape of the city.
