Sarkis Soghanalian (February 6, 1929 - October 5, 2011) was an Armenian-Lebanese international arms dealer, famously known as the 'Merchant of Death'. He gained notoriety as the 'largest arms dealer during the Cold War' and was a principal supplier of arms to the former Iraqi government under Saddam Hussein in the 1980s. Soghanalian was involved in various significant arms deals, including a $1.4 billion sale of French artillery and provided weapons to groups in Latin America and Africa, as well as participating in several controversial transactions related to U.S. intelligence operations.
