Schalk Willem 'Hond' van der Merwe is a former South African rugby union player known for playing as a prop. He had an extensive career in domestic South African rugby with teams like the Free State Cheetahs, Golden Lions, and Griffons, and also played in Super Rugby for the Lions and Southern Kings. In addition, he had stints in Europe with Montpellier in France's Top 14 and Ulster in the Irish Pro14. He debuted in Super Rugby during the 2014 season and most recently played for Ulster before his release in December 2018.
