Her life has been deeply affected by tragic events in Rwanda's history, including the genocide in 1994, during which she lost 37 family members. Mukasonga has written several notable works, including 'Our Lady of the Nile' (2012) and 'Kibogo' (2020), exploring themes of grief, memory, and the role of women in her community.
