Scott Aaronson is an American theoretical computer scientist born on May 21, 1981. He currently serves as the chair of the Schlumberger Centennial Chair in Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin. His research primarily focuses on computational complexity theory and quantum computing. After joining the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) faculty in 2007, he later moved to UT Austin in 2016. In 2022, Aaronson announced a year-long collaboration with OpenAI to work on theoretical foundations regarding AI safety.
