John Higgins, known as Sean O Huigin, is a Canadian poet and writer born on June 27, 1942. He began teaching poetry in the early 1960s and started writing in the late 1970s. His work primarily focused on children's poetry during the 1980s and 1990s, particularly with Black Moss Press. His notable publication, The Ghost Horse of the Mounties, received the prestigious Canada Council Children's Literature Prize in 1983, making history as the first poetry book to win this award. Additionally, his poem 'Acid Rain' was adapted into a short film in 1986.
