Sebastián Mendívil Urquijo was a Republican combatant and member of Eusko Gudarostea during the Spanish Civil War. Born into a socialist family in Barakaldo, he joined the militia and later became a lieutenant in the Republican Army. He was notable for leading the Bakunin Battalion of the CNT. After being captured in 1938, he escaped from a concentration camp in France and joined the Resistance during WWII. Following the war, he became active in veterans' associations and worked for recognition of Republican soldiers.
