Seihei Katō (1906-1969) was a Japanese forestry scientist, landscape architect, and mountaineer. He made significant contributions to the field of forest utilization, research on ropeway technology, and the establishment of natural conservation forest systems. He also studied tourism, landscape studies, and the aesthetics of bridges. He held the title of Doctor of Agriculture and was a professor emeritus at the University of Tokyo. Katō led the Himalayan climbing team and the 1963 University of Tokyo Karakoram Expedition, later suffering from rheumatism that required hospitalization.
