Born on September 1, 1945, in Port Said, she earned a Bachelor of Arts from Cairo University in 1964. Her career started in journalism and later transitioned to literature. She has been actively involved in food security issues in Egypt and critically engaged with governmental policies, notably resigning from her advisory role to President Mohamed Morsi in opposition to a controversial constitutional declaration in 2012.
