Sekinari Nii is a Japanese politician born on March 20, 1943, in Mine, Yamaguchi Prefecture. He served as the governor of Yamaguchi from 1996 to 2012. After studying at the University of Tokyo, he began his career in the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 1966. Later, he taught at the National Fire Agency's academy and held various positions in the Yamaguchi Prefectural Government, ultimately becoming the head of the Finance Department. He was elected governor after defeating several candidates and was re-elected three times until he chose not to run again in 2012.
