Selvarasa Pathmanathan, also known as Shanmugam Kumaran Tharmalingam, born on April 6, 1955, in Kankesanthurai, Ceylon, is the current leader of the Sri Lankan separatist organization Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Before assuming leadership after Velupillai Prabhakaran's death in May 2009, he left Sri Lanka in the early 1980s and served in exile as the LTTE's finance chief and arms dealer. He was arrested on August 5, 2009, under unclear circumstances in a South Asian country and was imprisoned in Sri Lanka until 2012.
