Semen Gluzman is a Ukrainian psychiatrist and human rights activist born on September 10, 1946, in Kyiv. He is the founder of the Ukrainian Psychiatric Association and the American Ukrainian Human Rights Office. Gluzman was the first Soviet psychiatrist to openly oppose the misuse of psychiatry against dissidents. He faced imprisonment and exile for his beliefs. Awarded fellow status in the American Psychiatric Association and received the Geneva Human Rights Award in 2008 for his ethical stances in psychiatry. He has published extensively on mental health issues in Ukraine.
