From 1929 until the outbreak of World War II, he dominated sprint cycling in Switzerland, winning eight national sprint titles, including two as an amateur. His first professional title in 1934 was marked by the tragic death of his mentor Emil Richli. Dinkelkamp also excelled in handicap races, capitalizing on his speed despite the lack of pure sprint competitions.
