Jalcireno Fontoura de Oliveira, known as Sereno, is a Brazilian composer, singer, and instrumentalist born on May 24, 1940, in Rio de Janeiro. He is notable for founding the carnival block Cacique de Ramos and the samba group Fundo de Quintal. Sereno introduced the tantã to samba, which became a signature instrument of Fundo de Quintal and the pagode samba movement that emerged in the following decade. His contributions played a significant role in shaping samba music in Brazil.
