Sergei Platonovich Dbar was a significant military leader in Abkhazia, born on May 2, 1946, in Mgudzyrkhua. He served in the Soviet Army and became a key figure during the 1992-1993 war with Georgia, eventually rising to Major General and later Lieutenant General. He was awarded the title Hero of Abkhazia in 1994 and became Deputy Minister of Defence in 1995. After a brief retirement, he returned to command forces during the 2001 Kodori crisis and was elected to Parliament in 2002 as Vice-Speaker, serving until his death on June 27, 2002.
