He began his education at Salesian College Christopher Columbus and earned a bachelor's degree from Vicente Rocafuerte College in 1951. He later taught at the University of Guayaquil and entered journalism, contributing to his early writing career. As a young man, he was part of a group of poets known as 'Club 7' from 1951 to 1962, marking a significant period in his literary journey.
