Sesson Uno (宇野 雪村, 1912-1995) was a Japanese calligrapher known as a pioneer of avant-garde calligraphy. Born in Hyogo prefecture, he graduated from Mikage Normal School in 1932 and studied under Ueda Kōhaku. He formed the Kyoseikai group with Kōhaku and won the Minister of Education Award in 1942. After becoming a juror for the Nitten exhibition in 1954, he fully embraced avant-garde calligraphy post-1956. Recognized internationally for his innovative style, he was a professor at Asia University and received significant honors, including the Order of the Purple Ribbon in 1974.
