Sevan Nişanyan is a Turkish-Armenian writer, blogger, and philosopher, born on December 21, 1956, in Istanbul, Turkey. He studied philosophy at Yale University and later political science at Columbia University. Nişanyan is known for his critiques of Turkish politics and Islam. He wrote 'The False Republic' and 'The Etymological Dictionary.' He was sentenced to 17 years in prison for alleged illegal construction on his property, with claims of a politically motivated trial. He escaped prison in July 2017 and subsequently settled in Belgium.
