Shafie held various positions, including the 15th Chief Minister and State Minister of Finance of Sabah, and Minister of Rural and Regional Development. He is the founding President of the Heritage Party, established in 2016. Shafie lost his chief minister role after the defeat of his coalition in the 2020 state election.
