Shambhu Dayal Sinvhal was an Indian mathematician and astronomer, born on November 20, 1923, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. After earning his PhD in mathematics from Lucknow University, he worked at the same institution before becoming an assistant astronomer and later director at the Uttar Pradesh State Observatory. He was vice chancellor of Kumaon University and active in several scientific societies. Sinvhal contributed significantly to astronomy and mathematics in India and received the Padma Shri award in 1975 from the Government of India.
