Shamil Abdul Qader Al-Hassari (born May 3, 1949) is an Iraqi journalist and historian specializing in political history and Jewish affairs. Born in the Jubaila area of Basra, he belongs to the Kurdish Balbas tribe, claimed to be descendant of the companion Khalid ibn al-Walid. His father was an officer in the Iraqi army, leading to their relocations in various cities. Shamil completed his primary education in Kirkuk and secondary education in Baghdad, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law in 1972 and another in Hebrew Language in 1998. He has been married and resides in Baghdad since 1959.
