Shapour Jorkesh (January 29, 1951 – August 6, 2023) was an Iranian poet, translator, critic, literary researcher, and playwright. Born in Fasa, Fars Province, he lived in Shiraz until his death. Jorkesh is best known for his book 'The Poetics of Modern Poetry', which explores contemporary poetry through a new lens. He established the Shiraz Translation Group and faced censorship throughout his career, particularly concerning his work exploring the place of women in literature. His contributions to Iranian literature make him a significant figure among modern poets.
