She was a member of the United States women's national soccer team from 1985 to 1986 and was awarded the U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year in 1985, marking significant achievements in her athletic career. Raised in Bothell, Washington, she played various sports in high school and later pursued a semi-professional basketball career in the Netherlands. McMurtry has also played and coached soccer in Australia.
