Shaun Tomson is a former professional surfer and businessman from Durban, South Africa. He became the World Surfing Champion in 1977 and competed on the World Tour from 1976 to 1989. Tomson achieved an impressive six-year winning streak at the Gunston 500 competition in South Africa from 1972 to 1977. In 2004, he was named by Surfing magazine as one of the greatest surfers of all time. Tragically, his son Mathew died in an accident in Durban in 2006.
