Vasily Viktorovich Shchepin (June 13, 1950 – February 18, 2007) was a Soviet and Russian chemist known for his expertise in the synthesis of organic compounds using magnesium, zinc, and silicon intermediates. He served as a Soros associate professor (1996), earned a Doctor of Chemical Sciences degree (1996), and became a professor (1997). He headed the Laboratory of Elemento-organic Compounds at the Natural Science Institute (1998-2003) and chaired the Department of Organic Chemistry at Perm State University (1998-2007). He synthesized over a thousand unknown organic derivatives with various biological activities.
