She moved to Germany in 1971, working in the library of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Bonn, overseeing Eastern European studies. In the 1990s, she gained recognition for her children's literature, receiving the German Youth Literature Prize in 1997 for her book 'Karel, Jarda und das wahre Leben.'
