Shigeko Kohiyama is a Japanese haiku poet born on May 16, 1931, in Karafuto. After moving to Kitakata, Fukushima, in 1947, she faced health issues, including tuberculosis. Kohiyama began writing haiku under the guidance of Taiko Kujirai in 1955 and later trained with the poet Kyoshi Takahama. She has received various awards for her contributions to haiku literature, including the Kankai Collection Prize and the Modern Haiku Association Prize. Kohiyama also founded the ‘Tsuchi no Kai’ organization in 1984 and remains influential in contemporary haiku circles.
