Shigetaka Sasaki was a prominent Japanese-Canadian judoka, regarded as the 'Father of Canadian Judo'. He founded the first judo club in Canada, the Tai Iku Dojo, in 1924 in Vancouver. His dedication to judo led to the establishment of many branch schools across British Columbia. Sasaki played a crucial role in training RCMP officers, although his activities were disrupted during WWII. After the war, he continued to promote judo in Canada and received several honors for his contributions, including being posthumously inducted into various sports halls of fame.
