Ven. Shih Chao-hwei, born Lu Qiongzhao on May 28, 1957, in Yangon, Myanmar, is a Taiwanese Buddhist nun and founder of the Buddhist Hsi Lai Institute. She studied Chinese literature and is known for her activism in feminist movements and the legalization of same-sex marriage. Shih Chao-hwei has initiated Buddhist reform movements, including the abolition of the 'Eight Respect Laws', and is a co-organizer of the 'Anti-Gambling Legalization Alliance'. She was awarded the 38th Tianye Peace Prize in 2021.
