Shirley Barber was a British children's author and illustrator, born on 23 June 1935 in Guernsey. She had formal training in art and emigrated to Australia in 1965, where she lived in Melbourne and worked for Oxford University Press. Barber wrote numerous picture books and fairy-themed coloring books, selling over 10 million copies by 2008, with her works published in 18 languages. Her illustrations often featured fairies and animals in beautiful woods. She passed away at her home in Watsonia on 12 December 2023, at the age of 88.
