Shiva Balak Misra is an Indian geologist, writer, and social worker hailing from Barabanki district, Uttar Pradesh. He is renowned for his discovery of Ediacaran fossils in 1968, regarded as the oldest multicellular life forms on Earth. These fossils led to the establishment of Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve in 1984, which later became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016. Misra, who returned from Canada in 1969 after earning his MS degree, also founded a school in his native village and continues to contribute to education.
