Shōgo Ōta (September 24, 1939 - July 13, 2007) was a Japanese playwright and director known for creating a distinctive genre of theater called 'silent plays'. His notable works include 'Komachi Fūden', which premiered in 1977 and won the 22nd Kishida Kunio Drama Award, as well as the 'Silent Play Trilogy': 'Mizu no Eki', 'Chi no Eki', and 'Kaze no Eki'. Ōta served as a judge for the Kishida Kunio Drama Award from the 36th to the 49th edition and introduced the works of playwright Jon Fosse to Japan.
