Shōjirō Asahina was a prominent Japanese entomologist and odonatologist born on June 10, 1913, in Bunkyō, Tokyo. He specialized in medical entomology and the genus Epiophlebia. Throughout his career, he described 118 new dragonfly species, with 110 still recognized today. Additionally, he identified five new genera that are still in use. In recognition of his contributions to the field, ten species were named in his honor. Asahina's work significantly advanced the understanding of dragonfly taxonomy.
