Iizuka Shōkansai (1919-2004) was a renowned Japanese bamboo craftsman born in Tokyo. Raised in a family of artisans, he studied painting before mastering bamboo weaving to continue his family legacy. His work gained recognition at the Nitten art exhibition, winning prestigious awards such as the Hokutō Prize. He was designated a Living National Treasure in 1982 for his contributions to bamboo craft. Shōkansai showcased the art globally, including in America and Taiwan, and worked on preserving cultural artifacts for the Imperial Household Agency. He passed away at the age of 85.
