Shōzen Kumoi (December 24, 1915 - December 5, 2017) was a Japanese Buddhist monk and scholar, recognized for his expertise in Indology and Buddhist studies. He graduated from Otani University and later obtained a doctorate from the University of Tokyo. Kumoi served as an associate professor and professor at Otani University, becoming a professor at Bukkyo University and an honorary professor after his retirement. He was a member of the Japan Academy from 1975 to 1981 and received the Buddhist Evangelical Culture Award in 2000. He lived to be 101 years old.
