Silvain Reiner was a French writer of Romanian origin, born on February 23, 1921, in Bucharest. He belonged to a Jewish family from Transylvania and emigrated to France in seek of better opportunities. During World War II, his family was deported and perished in Auschwitz, while he survived in a refugee camp in Switzerland. After the war, he worked various jobs before becoming a successful author, publishing numerous novels and biographies. He married Anne-Marie Vry and had two sons. Reiner continued to write until his death on July 1, 2001, in Suresnes.
